Ruth Roman was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, the youngest of three daughters of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline (Gold) and Abraham Roman. When her father passed away as a carnival barker, at the age of a little girl She was required to provide for the family by working as a cook and server. Ruth was raised in the tenement area of poverty in Boston, Massachusetts, where she was educated. She quit the institution she was in within two years of her education to pursue the profession of acting. Her path to success turned out be filled with challenges and in New York, she obtained an opportunity to pose for stills for a magazine about crime, but theatrical work eluded her. The next position she was offered was the "hat check" woman at a nightclub but she quit and moved back to Boston. She was an usherette during the early morning hours and also was a part of the New England Repertory Company by evening, her first ever permanent acting job. She has also been accepted into Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she studied drama.
